| Joint Rolling - Freestyle
Step 1: Load it | | Start with the rolling paper "sticky side up." Keep in mind that loading too little Bud will result in a "pinner," while loading too much will prevent the joint from closing properly. | Step 2: Shape it | | Carefully shape the joint by rolling it back and forth until the Bud in the rolling paper is evenly dispersed and cylindrical in shape. | Step 3: Roll it | | Roll the bottom end of the paper up and tuck it over the top of the Bud while pulling end to end (to ensure tightness). Continue to roll the paper from the bottom up until only the sticky strip is showing. | Step 4: Lick it | | Lick the sticky strip of the paper and seal the joint. Lightly twist both ends of the joint so that Bud isn't sucked into your mouth as you inhale. | Step 5: Spark it | | Hold the joint in your mouth (or in your hand as shown) and spark it up. If the joint has trouble igniting, give it a few puffs and suck the flame towards the joint. |
Joint Rolling - Dollar BillStep 1: Load it | | This technique is a useful steppingstone to freestyle rolling. Load a dollar bill with Bud as you would load a rolling paper and shape by rolling back and forth. | Step 2: Add it | | Add a rolling paper (sticky side up) between the Bud and bill. | Step 3: Roll it | | Fold the bill in half and roll it upward with your thumbs. make sure that the rolling paper is wrapping around itself to form a cylinder. | Step 4: Remove it | | Remove the joint from the dollar bill while keeping firm pressure on the paper so that the joint does not unravel. | Step 5: Lick it | | Lick the sticky strip of the paper and seal the joint. Lightly twist both ends of the joint so that Bud isn't sucked into your mouth as you inhale. | Step 6: Spark it | | Now you're ready to spark the joint. Let the festivities begin! | Joint Rolling - Pen Technique
Step 1: Wrap it | | This method is time consuming, but does payoff if done properly. Wrap a rolling paper around a pen (or pencil) until only the sticky surface of the paper is showing. This will provide the basis for your perfectly shaped joint. | Step 2: Lick it | | Lick the sticky strip of the paper and seal the joint. | Step 3: Load it | | Pull the paper up so that only a quarter inch remains around the pen. Load the Bud in small pieces from the top. | Step 3: Pack it | | Fill the paper with Bud and use a smaller pen (or other object) to pack the Bud into the bottom of the joint. Repeat this until the joint is complete. | Step 4: Spark it | | Spark the jay and pass it around while everyone marvels at your joint rolling skills. |
Joint Rolling - Roller
Step 1: Load it | | This method saves considerable time when rolling multiple joints. Fill the roller with Bud and pack lightly. Close roller and roll back and forth to ensure even distribution of Bud. | Step 2: Roll it | | Load paper into the roller with the sticky side up. Roll the paper into the machine by pressing down with your thumbs. Continue to roll the paper in until only the sticky strip is visible. | Step 3: Lick it | | Lick the sticky strip and continue to roll downward with your thumbs. Let the joint sit for a moment before removing it from the roller. | Step 4: Remove it | | Open the roller and carefully remove the joint. If the paper was inserted incorrectly the paper will not stick and the joint fall apart. | Step 5: Spark it | | Now, it's time to kick back and smoke your perfectly rolled joint. |
Part 1 of 2: About Blunts by: Mary Jane Girl When it comes to Bud, I'm a very versatile woman. I do it all - bongs, joints, glass, fruit pipes - but when it comes down to it, my favorite way to smoke is in blunt form. I appreciate the flavor that the right cigar can add to the smoke, as well as the ability to get really high a lot faster. Blunts can sometimes turn not-so-good Bud into a worthwhile smoke, and you'll greatly appreciate the reduction of paraphernalia with blunt smoking as compared to pipes and paper. (This makes blunt rolling optimal for long car rides.) The blunt smoker demographic has been displayed in the media as rappers who roll on black leaf cigars, but after this tutorial you'll find that you don't NEED to be a rich thug to enjoy this smoking experience.
Bud and Blunts The type of Bud you use will affect the way your blunt will roll. The best Bud to use is dry bud that's been through a grinder. Make sure you don't grind it too fine, because rolling with shake leaves tons of little Bud flecks in your mouth. Moist or leafy bud will make the blunt squishy, causing it to be harder to roll. If you plan to ride and smoke, pre-grind your Bud. Generally, a blunt will use about twice the amount of Bud as an "average sized" joint, so breaking it up by hand in a moving vehicle can take a while. Bud amount will vary according to how fucked up you're looking to get.
Cigars This is probably the most important aspect of blunt rolling. Everyone has rolled up some spectacular herb in a shitty blunt before and had to struggle through smoking it. The type of cigar can make or break a blunt smoking experience, so always choose wisely.
Swisher Sweets are strongly flavored and harsh on the throat. I know people who swear up and down by them, but I hate them. Only roll with these if you can handle strong tobacco or if you smoke cigarettes.
White Owls also have a strong flavor, but not as bad as Swishers. I prefer this one of the two, specifically the White Owl flavored blends. Mocho Mint is my favorite.
Optimos are an ideal blunt if you can find one that isn't dry as hell. Personally, about 9 out of every 10 Optimos I buy are dry when I get them. Since they have a leaf wrapper, dryness can render them useless due to the fact that the leaf will crumble right in your hands. All hope is not lost; wet a dry blunt very well, and after you dump out the guts (explained later) CAREFULLY wet the inside and then start flattening it out. Hopefully you can salvage the blunt. There are other green and brown leaf cigars out there (Garcia y Vega, Dutchmasters) that are a little better to work with. Other than that, Optimos live up to the advertisement of being very mild (if you're smoking some strong Bud, you probably won't even taste the cigar), and they burn forever. Great for a long car ride.
Phillies are my favorites, especially Chocolate Phillies. They burn slow as hell and take a long time to dry out, so you can buy a double box and have it last all week. Their flavor is milder than a White Owl but not as mild as an Optimo. Perfect balance, in my opinion.
No matter what brand you choose, always look for two things: freshness and moisture. Avoid buying any cigars that have dust accumulated on them (most cigar boxes don't have "born on" dates, so most of the time you're left to guess). Also, squish the blunt a bit to make sure it's not dried out. Now that you've got your Bud ready and your blunt picked out, let's start rolling...
Part 2 of 2: How to Roll a Blunt by: Mary Jane Girl Step 1: Materials | | Cigar, Bud, knife or scissors, grinder, lighter | Step 2: Bust it | | Lick your blunt until it is moist. Take a blade and cut a straight line lengthwise from butt to tip. Stick your thumb into the opened blunt and slide the insides (known as "guts") out. Don't try to push them all out at once because you can tear the blunt up that way. | Step 3: Tear it | | At this point you can tear or cut off the rounded end of the blunt, or leave it there. I prefer to remove it because sometimes it causes you to roll the blunt shut. In this tutorial, we'll remove the end. Using only the inner layer will cut down on the amount of nicotine. | Step 4: Lick it | | Now that you've got a nice rectangular blunt wrap, lick the edges to seal up any tears. Then, take the wrap and fold it in the center like you would for a joint. | Step 5: Add it | | Spread the Bud evenly down the length of the blunt. (If you don't use enough Bud to support the size of the wrap it will collapse in on itself while you're trying to smoke.) | Step 6: Fold it | | Give your blunt it's shape by carefully folding and rolling it up. Tuck the shorter side of the wrap around the Bud, then continue to roll it all the way. Be careful not to pinch the ends shut or roll it too tight as this will cause you to pass out from sucking too hard. | Step 7: Seal it | | Lick the last half inch pf paper lengthwise. Then, press the rest carefully down to the blunt. (Blunt type is really important here, since some blunts are stickier than others.) Do not taper the ends too much as this can cause the blunt to end up with a hole too small to pull from. | Step 8: Bake it | | Take a lighter and run it up and down the length of the blunt while spinning it. This will dry out the moisture and give it a good bake, which makes the blunt firmer. Don't let the fire linger in one sBud too long or it will burn. Bake the blunt just long enough to make it firm and a little darker in color | Step 9: Spark it | | Hold the fire at the very tip of the blunt. Spin the blunt around to evenly distribute the flame and minimize the possibility of developing runs. (Runs can be remedied by smearing saliva on the longer side of the cherry.) |
